SumDir32 is a Visual Basic Program that will recursively find and identify all directories and files on your system. I know, I know, "they're now called Folders now". Also included is a handy disk space summary DskSpc32. SumDir32 and DskSpc32 are completely free as I think most homegrown utility software should be. They were created for my own personal use and I've found them very useful in locating wasted disk space. One of the nice features of both of the utilities is the ability to right-click on any column and Explore or further summarize a directory's contents.
Installation uses a Setup Wizard that places the programs and the help file in your Windows directory. The installation adds both programs to the Start Menu/Programs folder. Additionally, "context" menus are created for Explorer so that any folder or disk may be summarized with a simple right-click selection of SumDir32. Since the Setup Wizard is used, you may completely deinstall both SumDir32 and DskSpc32 by using the Control Panel's Add/Remove Software option.
DiskSpace32 can be very handy when used with a Keyboard Shortcut. When downloading a file or installing software, a few keystrokes will launch DiskSpace32 to display the available space to help you decide where to install the software. To create a shortcut :
Right-click on the start button and choose "Explore"
Locate DiskSpace32 in Programs -> SumDir32
Right-click on DiskSpace32 and choose "Properties"
In the Short-Cut Key box enter a letter such as "J". Ctl+Alt+J will be displayed.
Click OK and close all windows.
Now to access DiskSpace32 simply hold down the AND keys and press the "J" key. Viola'
